Hi, Michael - I appreciate your writing, and your comment/question is worthy! I can advocate for professional interior design registration in states that do not recognize interior design as a profession (since it IS a profession), for the betterment of all who practice interior design in it's many forms. That will just help everyone.

And, yes, I advocate and work for interior design registration when it is purely optional/a choice for individuals; when it does not impinge on any other profession & allows them all to continue to do their work without hindrance; when it causes registered/licensed interior designers to take required CEUs; when it protects consumers by giving them a means to report improper interior design work and know it'll be addressed with the interior designer involved (who could lose their registration/license if guilty); when it opens doors to new areas for work that don't currently exist (widens business opportunities); when it raises the bar in our profession such that we're shown to be equally or more qualified than architects to do the work under the statute; when it helps advance our profession.

I've been an NKBA member for nearly 30 years, and never have I agreed with the campaign to assault ASID, their members in particular, and interior designers in general - when it is those people to whom I market and with whom I do business! Interior designers bring me the best clients I could ask for as a Kitchen & Bath Designer, and I will do all in my power to foster relationships with all of them, just as I do with architects and other building professionals. I cannot think of anything more ridiculous than fighting this movement, when the thrust of it all is to open new markets to those interior designers who are qualified to take them on (commercial spaces of certain sizes, without dealing with load-bearing elements - best left to architects and engineers). Wouldn't I want them helping me if I were trying to do the same thing?

Michael, I appreciate your asking, for this gives me the chance to express my perspective, and hopefully, open your mind to a different view. Please stay in touch with me.

Warm wishes,
Duval B. Acker, ASID, CMKBD

Hi Duval
I am curious as a CMKBD how do you reconcile your NKBA credentials and your ID regulation efforts on behalf of ASID and the Coalitions?

Not trying to start anything here- I am truly curious how that works.
THANKS!
