Home & Kitchen Renovation – Part III of III

Welcome back — this resort home has now been fully redesigned to bring it current with today’s open-space environments, and is now ready for our client to move back into.  Take a look .. .. .. .. ..

First, a closeup of my spice storage solution for my client:

Just a few inches of wall space gives us tons of shelves for storage, all adjustable!

To the right of the cooking surface, the pull out spice

rack sports adjustable shelves for skinny bottles, jars and

cans – right where they are most needed.

On the far side of the oven/warming drawer area is still another pull out, this one a pantry.  I had it made 9″ wide, so it would hold any size of can or box.  All of the shelves are fully adjustable to maximize the storage potential.  So, the client has a full pantry in this small kitchen, with loads of shelves for staple items used frequently for meal preparation.

I love the egg-and-dart-detail in the door and drawer frames…..look closely…..

The warm brown glaze that’s nearly completely removed by hand leaves just enough to capture the detail of this wonderful, very small detail.

Last, see the electrical receptable under the spice storage?  That makes it easy to plug in a small appliance here where the counter is plentiful and open to the living spaces….

Cool handles, huh?  They are fresh and contemporary – one left and one right.  We placed them around the kitchen in interesting pairs, and our client loves them.  We also used a few knobs on doors to make accessing them easy.

Nice contrast with the floor, too –

The brand-new room is shown nicely here – look at the stunning top mouldings around the cabinetry at the ceiling.  These formalize and “finish” the room so well.  One of my favorite features of this kitchen is the special valance above the sink — no one has one like this anywhere!  It frames the tile so well, and draws one’s eye in to enjoy the details of the tile.

So many different elements “made” this room remarkable.  Here are a few of them:

LED lighting under wall cabinets; curvaceous low-voltage track lighting system with adjustable/removable/addable trackheads lit by MR 16 lamps; a wonderful dining table that I designed and had made for this kitchen – it’s perfect seating for three, or when pulled away from the peninsula, four; the hand-made tile – brought in by another interior designer, Andrea,  an ASID friend of mine; scrubbable, low VOC paints on every surface; and so much more…..

How do you like it?
